We’re excited to share that the Biomedical Devices and Wearables in Orthopaedic Research Interest Group (RIG) has been accepted by the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS)!
This is a major milestone for the field. To our knowledge, this RIG will provide the first completely dedicated forum focused on portable and wearable biomedical devices for musculoskeletal health, creating a home for researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry partners working across wearable technologies, multimodal sensing, artificial intelligence, extended reality, and objective functional assessment. The goal is to foster collaboration, identify unmet clinical needs, and accelerate the translation of emerging biomedical technologies into orthopaedic research and clinical practice.

Prof. Joseph H. Schwab and Dr. Hamid Ghaednia Ph.D. are thrilled to organize this RIG and help build a community around what we believe will become an inseparable part of musculoskeletal assessment, research, and ultimately clinical care: objectively quantifying human function using portable biomedical devices and multimodal wearable technologies.
For us, this is more than a new RIG at ORS. It is an opportunity to help establish portable and wearable biomedical devices as a distinct and growing research area within orthopaedics, and to bring together the people who will shape where this field goes next.
